This Privacy Policy explains how Echo (“EchoI” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, and shares information about you when you use Echo, our speech-first language learning app and related sites and services (the “Service”).
By using the Service, you agree to this Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
Quick summary
We collect account details, device/usage data, and the audio and transcripts you choose to provide so we can deliver speaking practice and feedback.
Some features require a paid subscription; purchases through Apple are processed by Apple.
We don’t sell your personal information.
We use service providers (e.g., cloud, analytics, payment, crash reporting, AI infrastructure).
You can request access or deletion of your data by emailing support@akilli.ai.
The Service is for ages 13+.
We are in beta; features and data practices may evolve.
Information we collect
1) Information you provide
Account & profile: name, email, password or auth IDs, settings, preferred language(s).
Content: voice/audio, transcripts, text prompts, corrections, and other inputs you give the app.
Communications: messages you send us (support emails, feedback).
Subscription info: plan, status, renewal dates (we do not receive full card numbers for App Store purchases).
2) Information collected automatically
Device & app: device type, OS version, app version, language, time zone, unique device identifiers.
Usage & diagnostics: feature use, taps, session duration, crash logs, performance and telemetry.
Cookies/SDKs (on web or where applicable): for sign-in, analytics, fraud prevention, and remembering preferences.
3) Information from third parties
App stores & payment processors: purchase confirmations, subscription status, refunds.
Single sign-on / auth providers (if enabled): basic profile information.
Analytics & error reporting partners.
How we use information
We use your information to:
Provide and operate the Service (e.g., run conversations, generate feedback, maintain accounts).
Process speech: transcribe, analyze, and score audio to give you pronunciation/fluency feedback.
Personalize & improve features, models, and user experience (including training and tuning algorithms).
Maintain safety and integrity: detect abuse, prevent fraud and misuse, enforce our Terms.
Communicate with you about service changes, updates, and important notices.
Comply with law and fulfill contractual obligations.
Legal bases (EEA/UK users): performance of a contract (providing the Service), our legitimate interests (improving Echo, security, analytics), consent (where required, e.g., notifications/marketing).
How we share information
We share information only as described:
Service providers / processors: cloud hosting, storage, analytics, logging, crash reporting, communications, AI infrastructure (to process audio/transcripts for feedback), payment and app-store partners. They may access personal data only to perform services for us, under contractual safeguards.
App stores / payment processors: to manage subscriptions, billing, and refunds.
Legal & safety: to comply with law, lawful requests, and to protect rights, users, and the Service.
Business transfers: in a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets.
With your direction or consent: e.g., if you share content or connect a third-party account.
We do not sell your personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
Speech, transcripts, and training data
Echo is speech-first. When you speak, we may store audio and generated transcripts to deliver features (e.g., feedback, history), debug, ensure quality, and improve the Service and our models/algorithms. Where required by law, we rely on legitimate interests and implement safeguards like access controls, retention limits, and de-identification where feasible.
If you want us to delete your conversation data, email support@akilli.ai with your account email. Deletion requests do not affect data we are required to keep for security, fraud prevention, or legal obligations.
Data retention
We keep personal data only as long as necessary for the purposes above or as required by law. For example:
Account/profile and subscription data: kept while your account is active.
Audio, transcripts, and logs: retained for a period needed to provide features and improve quality, then deleted or de-identified.
Backups/archives: kept for a limited time and then purged on a rolling basis.
You can request deletion at any time (see “Your rights”).
Your choices & rights
Access / Delete / Export: request a copy of your data or ask us to delete it at support@useecho.ai
Marketing: opt out via unsubscribe links or settings.
Microphone & notifications: control permissions in your device’s Settings.
Subscriptions & refunds: manage in the App Store; refunds for Apple purchases are handled by Apple under their policies.
EEA/UK residents also have rights to object or restrict processing and to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. California residents can request disclosure or deletion under the CCPA/CPRA; we do not sell or share personal information.
Children’s privacy
Echo is intended for ages 13+. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe a child provided us data, contact us and we will take appropriate action.
Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards (e.g., encryption in transit, access controls). No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security.
International transfers
We process and store data in the United States and other countries where we or our providers operate. These countries may have different data protection laws than your home country. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards (e.g., contractual clauses).
Third-party services & links
Our Service may link to or integrate third-party services (e.g., Apple TestFlight, app stores, payment processors, analytics). Their privacy practices are governed by their policies, not ours.
Changes to this Policy
We may update this Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will post the updated Policy and update the Effective date above. Your continued use means you accept the changes.
